Are You Stuck?
Zoom Link for tonight's call on Mentorship, because sometimes we need a little help progressing in the spiritual and creative life.
“Everyone who wants to embark on a spiritual life needs a spiritual director or a guide.” Saint Teresa of Avila
I feel this deeply.
As a woman who endured the difficult stretch of feeling like I had been left to walk the path of holiness alone, I understand the importance of a guide. I prayed for years for a Spiritual Director, and in true God fashion, He sent me 3,000 miles away to speak at an unusual event, where I felt emotionally uncomfortable, physically cold, and couldn’t for the life of me obtain a cup of coffee, so that He could set me in a folding chair next to a stranger, whom I would immediately click with; the person He had chosen to be my Spiritual Director.
Years later, I experienced a different kind of loneliness, a “stuckness” if you will, in my apostolic work. I was doubting and confused. What was God really calling me to do for His Kingdom, and was there someone out there who could help me discern, someone just a few steps ahead who would encourage me in my giftings, understand what I was up against, and who could offer wisdom gained through life experiences, while teaching me how to navigate challenges?
The answer to that question is yes: this person is out there.
There is no shortage of influencers and life coaches—they are a scroll and Google search away! But I knew I needed more than secular support. I needed a deeply spiritual person; someone who was progressing in the interior life as well as her creative life. Someone who could offer prayerful, structured accountability, whose guidance was a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Someone real, relatable, and hard working; a person who loved the Lord and wanted to see others become the best version of themselves. Someone who gets it—you know what I mean?
What I was searching for was spiritual mentorship. And God be praised, once again, He came through.
Today, I understand why the Lord allowed the season of stuckness and loneliness. It is the same reason why He has permitted my suffering. To use it to help others.
And so here I am, Lord. Send me.
Just a couple of months ago, I gave my “yes” to offering Individual Mentorship, and next month I will reopen the calendar and accept a few more “mentees.” If you are the least bit curious…if you are wondering what mentorship is, do you need it, and is it something worth investing in…you are invited to join me tonight at 7 pm EST for an informal, yet informative call where I will share all the details and answer your questions.
Here is your link!
And because I know your time is valuable, the call won’t last too long. And anyway, I need to put the chickens to bed by 7:50 pm!
Laura Phelps is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
